Overview: About the Collaborative

CalSAC's Youth Opportunities Collaborative (YOC) is a network of South Santa Clara County violence prevention stakeholders, including: afterschool programs; community organizations; juvenile justice, health, and social work programs; parents; youth and more.

The project was designed to identify sustainable strategies to curb youth violence and promote youth development. Funded by a grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the major goals of YOC include:

  • increasing the number and scope of protective-factor development activities available to youth in Santa Clara County;
  • addressing the most urgent risk factors in the community by mobilizing stakeholders to promote the increase of youth development programs in high-risk areas;
  • developing a strategy of sustainability for all youth development projects implemented or promoted by the Collaborative; and
  • educating the community on youth development, with outreach to at-risk populations.

As of January, 2007, this project has been folded into the South County Collaborative, a collaborative that brings together education, health, workforce, homeless, and welfare advocates from across Southern Santa Clara County to help fill the many needs of the area's communities.
