Ruth joined the CalSAC team in 2008 and now serves as Executive Director. Over the years, she has worked diligently to establish a high functioning organizational culture and infrastructure through intentional program alignment, staff development and partnership cultivation. Ruth now works together with the board of directors and a devoted staff team to move forward CalSAC's strategic vision and mission to advance the out-of-school time field by building connections, competence, and community.

Ruth has a Master's in Social Work, emphasizing in community organizing and advocacy, at California State University, Fresno. She is also an alumnus of the American Humanics Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program and brings more than 10 years experience in the nonprofit sector. Ruth has coordinated a full range of fundraising programs with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and organized advocacy events with the National Association of Social Workers. In addition, she has trained with the National Coalition Building Institute and served on the board of Fresno Metro Ministry. Since relocating to Oakland in 2005 from the Central Valley, Ruth organized statewide campaigns to increase access to higher education with the University of California Student Association and managed a collaborative of state and regional Gay Straight Alliance networks nationwide.

Zak joined the CalSAC team with an extensive background in sports based youth development and physical activity-focused afterschool programming. Prior to CalSAC he worked at Coaching Corps (formerly Team-Up for Youth), coordinating the expansion of the Coaching Corps Program to San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. He also worked to create and manage the Team-Up for Girls after-school sports program designed to engage more middle school girls in team sports. In his two years with Team-Up for Youth he saw the volunteer youth sports coaching program grow in the South Bay to over 100 volunteer coaches per season and expanded the Team-Up for Girls program from 4 pilot programs to 20 Bay Area programs.

Zak graduated from the University of San Francisco in 2005 with his Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and minors in Business and Gender/Sexualities. As someone who started his career as a youth worker, he is excited to be developing strategies to strengthen the afterschool workforce in California.

As a Seattle native, Zak is a devoted Seahawks fan, but now considers the Bay Area his home after almost 10 years of living in San Francisco. He loves to stay active by running, hiking and playing Ultimate Frisbee. He also loves to cook, read and tackle sudoku puzzles in his free time.

Prior to joining CalSAC, Amelia was a Teaching Fellow for Citizen Schools at Campbell Middle School, a national non-profit after school program serving low-income communities. In her two years with Citizen Schools, Amelia worked with 7^th grade students to improve their academic, leadership and oral communication skills. She also recruited, trained and coached adult volunteers in designing and leading apprenticeships (10-week, hands-on learning projects that enable students to apply their learning in real-world contexts and encourage students to explore potential careers).

Amelia has a passion for after school, and holds a Master of Education with a Specialization in Out of School Time from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. Amelia earned her undergraduate degree from UC Santa Cruz in Community Studies. She brings her enthusiasm for  serving young people and communities through after school to CalSAC.
