Fred Becker
Fred Becker
Becker Institute Inc., Director

Fred Becker is a professional educator with over 40 years of experience working with high risk adolescents and parents as an instructor, special projects trainer, and program director. He has been instrumental in the development and implementation of programs in the areas of substance abuse, violence, multicultural relationships, classroom management, parent involvement, character development, and adult/child relationships. His present endeavors revolve around three highly successful programs for parents, teachers, and youth stressing the learning of social and emotional skills and the development of three key perceptions needed for success in life.

 

An author of three books, with his newest “Parenting with an Attitude” coming out in 2009, Becker has won numerous awards, including Outstanding Educator from the San Diego business community, Educator of the Year by the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, and a Life Time Achievement Award from the California Resource Officers Association.

His most treasured rewards are a healthy 43-year marriage, two prospering grown children, and coaching others whose lives have changed for the better.

Agnes Chan
Agnes Chan
Coastside Children's Programs, Executive Director

Prior to assuming the Executive Directorship of Coastside Children's Programs in January 2010, Agnes Chan had worked as the Director of Education and Outreach at Palo Alto Community Child Care where she was the key contact for family support services in that region.  Additionally, Agnes oversaw the teacher resource room and other relationships regarding early childhood professional development.  As the Quality Enhancement Manager at 4Cs of San Mateo County, she administered several programs that benefit the lives of young children including SaMCARES (San Mateo Comprehensive Approaches to Raising Educational Standards).  Agnes has previously worked in the classroom and consulted on child care classroom quality.  She was also a board member for San Francisco’s first Chinese bi-lingual preschool, Wah Mei School for 4 years.  Agnes holds a B.A. with a double major in Psychology and Child Development from Tufts University (MA), a M.A. in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership from Stanford University, and the Program Director Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

 

Agnes joined the CalSAC Board of Directors in 2012 and is currently serving as Treasurer.

Arnold L. Chandler

Arnold has been a policy researcher, advocate and trainer for close to ten years.  As a consultant, he helps nonprofits and foundations advance programs and policies focused on social and economic equity.  In particular, he is very focused on advancing policies and programs that improve the lives of socially and economically marginalized youth.  Chandler has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a M.S. in Information Systems and Web Strategy. He lives in Oakland, California with his wife Janet.

 

Arnold joined the CalSAC Board of Directors in 2010.

Jennifer Der
Jennifer Der
City of Daly City, Department of Library and Recreation Services, Recreation Supervisor

Jennifer has over 20 years of experience in the field of recreation beginning as a youth worker and volunteer for the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and currently as a Recreation Supervisor for the City of Daly City’s Department of Library and Recreation Services. Jennifer also serves as a lecturer at San Francisco State University under the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism and is a Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Trainer for the City of Daly City through the American Red Cross.  Jennifer has also served as a member of the Ways and Means, Mentoring and/or Education and Training committees for District 4 of the California Parks and Recreation Society and is presently, the Region II Representative for the Supervisor’s Section. Locally, she serves on the School Site Council for Junipero Serra Elementary School and assists with the PTA.

 

Jennifer also has 6 years of experience as a CalSAC project leader and is an NPASS STEM trainer. In addition, Jennifer is also a fellow in the first cohort of the CalSAC Leadership Development Institute for leaders of color in the field and is a trainer for the English Learners Training & Professional Development project. Jennifer holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration Management, with a minor in Asian American Studies and a Master’s of Science in Recreation Administration.

 

Jennifer joined the CalSAC Board of Directors in 2012 and is currently serving as Secretary.

Simon Lee
Simon Lee
Growth and Learning Opportunities (GLO), Executive Director

Simon has been in the out-of-school school time field for over 20 years - working his way up as a part-time college student to a program leader to his current position as Executive Director of Growth & Learning Opportunities. Simon has a passion for creating systems change that builds upon the strengths of people in the field to benefit all children in California irregardless of their background, ability, or where they live. Prior to joining the board at CalSAC, Simon served as a volunteer for CalSAC conferences and the Trainer Network. Simon received a BA in Sociology and MA in Education, both from San Francisco State University. In his spare time, Simon loves to travel, exercise, and watch sports.

 

Simon joined the CalSAC Board of Directors in 2007 and is the immediate past President.

Ron Quini
Ron Quini

Ron has been involved full time in afterschool programming since 1993. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in Social Science and Communication, he later earned his MA in Public Administration from National University.

 

Ron is a regular committee member for free county-wide trainings offered through the Children's Initiative in San Diego. He also has been a planning committee member for CalSAC's statewide conference. In 2000, Ron initiated his district's annual canned food drive benefiting the Encinitas Community Resource Center Holiday Basket Program for low income families and the annual Make-A-Wish Foundation coin drive.

Ron and his wife Anna enjoy spending free time with their three children. He is a two time member of the U.S. national karate team and former AAU National Champion. Ron is a self-described baseball junkie and football fanatic. "GO 'SC!"

 

Ron joined the CalSAC Board of Directors in 2008 and is currently serving as President.
